Whippoorwill
The note of the whippoorwill borne over the fields is the voice with which the woods and moonlight woo me.
- Henry David Thoreau
After a decade of writing music with and for other artists, I gave in to the gentle nudge to bring life to songs that have chosen me through the years. These are the melodies that called to me in the night. The stories that woke me from my sleep. Songs from memory, from imagination, from versions of myself I barely recognize in this season to versions of myself I know endlessly. They have been close companions, some older than my children & it’s a great privilege to have them out of my head & into the world.
This project would not exist without my dear friend Davis Naish. He played every instrument, produced each track & mixed each song. He is as talented as he is kind & I have endless gratitude for his time & talents breathing life into these songs. I also have an incredible group of women to thank for writing these songs with me - Kim Richey, Liz Longley & Leslie Jordan.

Lyrics for Whippoorwill
Where do you go when you're lying beside me
I can't seem to bridge the space
The silence builds until it breaks
Off in the distance, the black clouds are gathering
I saw a ring around the moon
Rain is coming, coming soon
I'm running in a dream, running down a hall
I'm looking for a light where there's none at all
I call your name but you're not there
I hear the song of a whippoorwill
I shiver in the cold of a winter chill
I call your name but you're not there
Oh oh oh
Is there someone or something you’re hiding or wanting
Don't know what I meant to say
You're a hundred million miles away
