Some Things Never Change
This is my sixteenth year in Nashville. This is a marking of time. A chapter of life well spent writing in a beautiful community of creators. The first song in a decade I’ve released, this is a rite of passage. A milestone I’m celebrating by releasing the songs that have been my voice all along.
The first release off my forthcoming EP, Whippoorwill, Some Things Never Change was written with Liz Longley nearly seven years ago. This song & a handful of others have rattled around my mind for years. Some have been with me longer than my children. They are song babies after all. Many of you have lovingly prodded me to make a record & I’ve approached & abandoned the idea many times. I think I had to go back to look forward. Back to a time before I could recognize my original voice, back to a time before I’d lost it, back to a time before I re-discovered it. I don’t know how it’s been a decade, time is funny like that, but it’s the perfect time.
I hope you have old songs that call to you in the night. If you’re a writer or an artist, I hope you’ll put them in the world too.

Lyrics
Some things are meant to break you
Like leaving home & starting over
Cause looking back it just reminds you, you're getting older
Something's never change
Some days you're running backwards
To arms of familiar strangers
Waking up in self-made disasters & crying in the sheets
Something's never change
Oh oh oh
Something's are meant to shape you
Like chasing ghosts and smoking pipe dreams
Realizing what you're holding onto isn't what it seems
Something's never change
Oh oh oh
Someone who really loves you
Will keep your deepest, darkest secrets
When you can't bear what you've been through love is all you need
Something's never change
Oh oh oh
Something's never change, you're getting older
Somethings never change, crying in the sheets
Something's never change, it isn't what it seems
Something's never change, love is all you need
